Since Brad and the rest of the crew appear beat after this weekend:
QOD: Did you attend Summer Crush Games? What were your impressions?

    • 8-20-2012

I’m in awe of all those competed, in any category… it takes a lot of guts to do it! It was great to see everyone cheering on those taking a little longer to finish. That sort of camaraderie, and the show of a strong will, is inspiring.

Good job to you guys from CFG that competed! you are beasts!!! :)

  2. 8-20-2012

Yes, very impressive. But I am also impressed by the CFG Team that was there judging and no repping the competitors. They gave up their weekend to make sure that this sport grows with quality judging. What makes Crossfit so different is that the Coaches are true and authentic believers. Congrats to you all.

I did attend, and surprised at how big it has gotten. It ran well and everyone seemed to be good spirits. I enjoyed myself and I am VERY proud of my friend Jorge I. Sanchez (PRX Jorge) for doing so well.

I attended Saturday and was impressed by the turn out. Great job to all those who competed (especially those from CFG).

  5. 8-20-2012

No I was in the middle of moving and unpacking all weekend. However I heard it went really well and everyone did a great job. I def would like to attend the next one.

I hope you will indulge me in an awfully long post. First off, I would like to congratulate and thank all of the organizers and volunteers. The event was incredible. The venue was unbelievable, absolutely perfect. The schedule ran like a finely oiled machine all weekend, every event was on time. Other than a couple of little scoring snafus, which were quickly corrected, there is nothing that appeared to go wrong. Really, really, REALLY well-done and well-run event, absolutely first-class. This didn’t happen by accident—it took a serious amount of planning, execution, and sweat. All of you that were part of making this happen have a lot to be proud of.

I was also blown away by the ability and dedication of the athletes that participated. I saw some things out there that were amazing. I remember seeing the women’s RX where one competitor was doing power snatches with a vest on, fell down to both her knees in exhaustion with the bar in the overhead position, but instead of giving up fought to put one foot up and lunged herself into a locked out stance—unbelievable! Stories like that were the norm, not the exception. The level of competition and sheer will of the competitors was off of the charts, which is not surprising given that this essentially was a national event with fire breathers coming in from all over the country to compete.

I was so proud of our competitors from CFG. Like Jen says, it takes a lot of guts to put yourself through this, and we were represented well. I personally spent some time with Rey, Rolando, Jorge, Chris, Yoan, and Janelle, among others, all of whom sacrificed tremendously to prepare and kicked some ass out there. Even with the very high level of competition, our members shone under the big lights. They should be extremely proud of their performances, and we should be extremely proud of them.

I was touched by the outpouring of support by the CFG members. So many members went out to support our athletes. Believe me when I say all of our competitors were so encouraged by your support. Our community is the absolute greatest, our co-members and coaches all support each other, and this is what makes our box the gold standard. I feel so blessed and proud to be part of it.

Near and dear to my heart, I am extremely proud of my two teammates this weekend, Carlos and Dom. We entered the team RX division as the oldest team, 42, 43, and 44 years of age—in fact, I believe our youngest guy was older than everyone else on every other team! Judging by the size of the mostly 20-somethings we competed against, we also probably were the smallest team physically as well. Perhaps we attempted to bite off more than we could chew, but we scrapped and fought and clawed our way through. It would have been easy to quit against the odds we faced, but that is not in the DNA of my teammates. We accomplished so much out there, each doing things we never thought we could. When all was said and done, we finished 30th out of 45 teams, a little below the middle of the pack. But 15 younger teams, a third of the field, went home knowing they got their asses handed to them by this crew of old guys. We have a lot to be proud of, and this experience with my CFG Masters, my brothers, will be one I shall never forget.

My body is battered by the weeks of preparation, weeks of stress & anxiety, and two days of hellish competition. I have bruises on both forearms, my left triceps, my left clavicle, my right shoulder, my right hip, both my thighs, my chin, and my scull behind my right ear. There is not a muscle or joint in my body that is not protesting in pain. It’s going to be a couple of days before I get back in the box and get back to work. And it is and was all worth it to be part of this very special, very fine event. Training for SCG III begins shortly…

      Thumbs up my fellow Master!!

    • 8-20-2012

Thanks for this positing Emilio. I’ve been chewing on sour grapes since Saturday night, stuck on my deficiencies, despite all the love support and well wishes that people have been sending my way.

The event itself was fantastic. The volunteers were on point. All my judges were great and kept it real (even Sergio handed me a no rep on the last squat in WOD 1). The crowd was phenomenal.

I could go back to assess and evaluate all day long, but what’s done is done. I am glad I did and now it’s time to get back to work. I want to thank everyone that came out to cheer for the CFG team, shout outs to my fellow competitors in men’s scaled for showing out and repping CFG in tremendous fashion.

I’m thankful member of our box and happy to be a part of such a great CrossFit community.

This was my first time at a Crossfit competition and I loved it!!! It was great to see so many people competing and supporting their teammates, boxes, friends, or whatever else they supported.

I was amazed at some of these women who put some men to shame!!! They were amazing to watch including several from our box. I was also able to watch Emilio & his posse and they did awesome…Saturday they finished one wod many teams didn’t finish! You all should be proud of your results! Congrats to everyone who participated!!!

  8. 8-20-2012

This was also my first time at a CF competition and I was so happy that I went (not withstanding the fact that my brother probably would’ve kicked my ass for not supporting him). Summer Crush is a testament to the community aspect of CF. Even though I originally only went to support our members, I found myself wanting every struggling person to succeed. It’s this craving that all of us have to capable and actually finish intense wods. It’s absolutely inspiring… makes me want to compete.

Somehow I got talked into rowing instead of running today!!!! but 124 reps with Stacey as my partner :)

  9. 8-20-2012

My first time attending and it was awesome!!!!
I just wanted to do a WOD right after…

Also very proud of our competitors.!!!thumbs up:)

The whole family attended, and had a great time. Bigger and better venue than last year. Athletes were ridiculously impressive, as always. So good to see all of our CFG family sweating it out and keeping pace with some real beasts … and in the case of CFG Masters, kicking the asses of those kids.

I’m most impressed by the 1st class events that Mike, Nick, Val, et al. have been putting on. Those that experienced the first Civil War Games, and even last year’s Summer Crush can see how far these events have come, and it’s great that this is getting the national attention that it deserves. Lots of people bitched about the spectator price, but it was a great event and the cheapest entertainment you could get for an entire weekend. Well worth it. It’s tough to make something like Crossfit a good spectator experience, and these guys pulled it off.

I can’t wait till next year, when I hope I can register in the 30 seconds it’ll undoubtedly take to sell out.

  11. 8-20-2012

Was there last year, and this year, I thought last year was great, but this year I was blown away! The caliber of the competition was top notch; the organization of the event was superb! There was enough happening to keep everybody entertained. The volunteers, I can’t say enough about, they are all SUPER STARS!!!! Coaches, I’m speechless, we are nothing without you guys. I felt that the competitors were happy, proud to participate, treated with a lot of respect, and very satisfied with everything that was made available to them for their comfort. To the head CF Gods of the I AM family, thank you for a competition of this magnitude, great job, great planning, great organization, and as a business owner myself, I can tell you that just knowing your business isn’t enough to succeed , you have to really love, care, and feel your business, with that said Congratulations on your success!!! OH! I almost forgot, LOVED the score boards!!!!! I do have one suggestion for next year, maybe look into the weekend before, so that Sunday doesn’t land the day before back to school, I know a few that didn’t make it on Sunday because of preparing with their kids for Monday. “I AM” so proud to be part of the CF community and especially of the I AM Family, I wish you all much continued success. I can’t wait till the Civil War Games!

  12. 8-20-2012

173 with my trusty partner Nat! :)

  13. 8-20-2012

Emilio said it all already , I will keep it short. Thanks to all the coaches and members who volunteered to make this an incredible competition. Though you didn’t wod I’m sure you are just as worn out as the athletes that competed. Thanks to everyone who came out and showed us some love! Dom and Emilio, what can I say. I love you guys! Honored to have competed with you!

And though I have thanked him numerous times already , Thanks Brad!! You have believed in me and pushed me beyond what I thought I was capable off! You have been an incredible coach and friend to me, and I hope I live up to all your expectations! We’re not done but this was a great test! Thank You for all the time and energy you put into helping me be a better crossfitter!

  14. 8-20-2012

Congratulations to all involved in the preparation and organization of one of the top Crossfit competition events in the world. It ran flawlessly, and the competition intense. I want to congratulate all of those who participated in these events, including my daughter and son, all of my other friends from our IAC family, specially my younger Master pals.. Domenico, Carlos, and Emilio. Guys, you are the best. I really think you were one of the top teams there. Stay together; would love to see you compete as a team again.
